Sidestepping Back Pain

Back pain (sciatica) is a painstaking condition for many sufferers. Fortunately, the majority of cases are healed and quelled within three to four months. Rehabilitating back pain entails some non-complicated therapies. Based on the health recommendations of the Wisconsin Department of Health and Family Services, the following home treatments are advised during the initial triggers of back pain:

Apply iciness. Since cold restricts further swelling of pain and inflammation, applying an icy or cold pack on the injured region of the back is important. The cold temperature of the pack will downgrade the pain while enhancing the ability to heal. The pack should be applied to the inflamed area of the back for ten to 15 minutes each hour on the hour.

Relax on the floor. Find an idyllic place to relax and recline. Lay on your abdomen and stomach with arms parallel to your body. Position your head to the left side. If more pain is experienced in the back, alternate the side if pain is more pronounced. Continue adjusting your head until you discover a comfortable position. For one to two minutes, relax while taking in deep breaths.

Certain stretches and exercises soothe the spine and various back pains (sciatica). Performing pelvic tilts will stretch the lower back. In order to execute pelvic tilts, lie on the back with knees bent and your feet relaxed flat on the floor. While pressing your lower back against the floor, slowly tighten the abdominal muscles. Then gingerly move the spine. Maintain a regular breathing pattern as you hold each tilt movement for ten seconds. After you release the pelvic tilt, allow two seconds before repeating the exercise nine more times.
